Slovakia IČ DPH validator
How the IČ DPH format works
- Format
- SK + 10 digits
- Example
- SK1234567890
Things to watch for
- This tool checks the format only; no check-digit validation is performed
^SK[0-9]{10}$Slovakia’s VAT number, the IČ DPH, is “SK” followed by exactly 10 digits — SK1234567890, issued by Slovakia’s Finančná správa (Financial Administration) once a business registers for VAT. What’s easy to miss is that this isn’t the same identifier a Slovak business already carries: every registered business gets an 8-digit IČO (organization ID) at formation, and IČ DPH is a separate, later-issued 10-digit number that only exists for businesses that go on to register for VAT specifically.
That two-tier setup means a perfectly legitimate, actively trading Slovak business can have an IČO but no IČ DPH at all, if it hasn’t crossed the VAT registration threshold or opted in voluntarily. Expecting every Slovak business ID to convert into a valid VAT number is a mistake worth avoiding before an invoice goes out.
The validation itself
This tool confirms the “SK” prefix and counts exactly 10 digits, entirely in your browser, with no signup and nothing sent to a server. It’s a length-and-prefix check — Slovakia’s official check-digit formula on the 10 digits isn’t calculated here.
What remains unverified
A correctly shaped IČ DPH doesn’t confirm it’s an active VAT registration today. Confirm through the EU’s VIES lookup or the Finančná správa before relying on it.
Scope: IČ DPH format only — not check-digit validation or registration status.

IČ DPH FAQ
What does IČ DPH stand for, and is it different from a Slovak company's other ID number?
IČ DPH means 'identifikačné číslo pre daň z pridanej hodnoty' — VAT identification number. It's distinct from a Slovak business's IČO (its general 8-digit organization ID assigned at incorporation); IČ DPH is a separate 10-digit number issued only once a business registers for VAT.
Why might a legitimate Slovak business not have an IČ DPH at all?
Because IČO and IČ DPH are assigned at different times for different reasons — every registered business gets an IČO at formation, but IČ DPH only follows if and when the business registers for VAT, which smaller businesses below the threshold may never do.
Does a correctly formatted IČ DPH number confirm active VAT registration?
No — this tool checks format only. Confirm current status through the EU's VIES lookup or Slovakia's Financial Administration (Finančná správa).
